Seattle Sounders fans were absolutely delighted to witness Obafemi Martins make his debut for the club on the weekend.
The Nigerian striker came on in the 70th minute of the 1-1 draw with Portland Timbers after joining the club from Levante last week and the welcome he received was the loudest strike partner Eddie Johnson has ever heard CenturyLink Field.
"It was the loudest it's ever been at the Clink when he came out," said Johnson who scored the 13th-minute go-ahead goal in front of a crowd of more than 40,000.
"The fans know the importance he has on this team and I thought he had a good debut. He showed in the 20 minutes what he can do and bring to the team. We're excited he is here."
And Martins, who calls Newcastle United, Inter Milan, Wolfsburg and Rubin Kazan some of his former clubs, was thrilled with the warm reception.
"I've been playing for a lot of clubs, and it's different here," he said.
