Ex-Everton, Tottenham, Liverpool midfielder Barmby excited by Hull job

Nick Barmby says he is excited about taking the role as manager of Hull City.

The 37-year old midfielder has stepped into the role made vacant by Nigel Pearson, who has returned to Leicester City, and is looking forward to giving his all so the Tigers can move up the Championship table.

"I'm delighted. We spoke about it last week. Obviously it was a bit of a shock, Nigel leaving to Leicester, but that's in the past now and the club will move forward like it always has done in the past," he told Sky Sports News.

"I'm very excited and very positive. I'm looking forward to it."

And Barmby insisted that being in a player-manager role will force him to guide the players from the sidelines and not try to juggle the two which could become a bit tricky.

"I'm going to pick myself, not bring myself off, captain, taking corners, throw-ins, everything," he joked.

"No, If you are going to be serious about it, I'm not ruling myself out but for the foreseeable future I will be on the sidelines."
