Michael Richardson is playing his way to a long-term deal at Newcastle United.
The Evening Chronicle says United have also been impressed with 18-year-old Richardson, and the midfielder is likely to stay on next season.
The former electrician was signed by Toon from park football and has won a place in Peter Beardsley's reserve team.
Toon coaches feel Richardson will continue to get better as he improves his fitness.
