Ex-Chelsea keeper Pidgeley: Nice guy Mourinho just brilliant

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Lenny Pidgeley is convinced Jose Mourinho will bring more success to Stamford Bridge second time around.

Pidgeley, 29, who is celebrating after winning promotion to the Football League with Newport County, was way down the pecking order at Chelsea when Mourinho first arrived.

He recalled to the Daily Express: "Jose told me he wanted me at Chelsea. It was amazing. I knew it was a big opportunity.

"None of us knew that much about him - other than he had just won the Champions League with Porto.

"When he first came in, he seemed like a nice guy. A great man-manager. He gets on with his players and has got such an aura, a presence.

"Of course he could be intimidating. He had big stars to deal with. I remember before games, I was just a kid who was sitting on the bench - but in team talks in the dressing room, when Jose started talking he had 100 per cent attention from everyone like John Terry, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba. Not a word was missed.

"During the week he would have a laugh with the players, a game of darts. But on match days it was deadly serious.

"He was meticulous. We played Scunthorpe in the cup and he had dossiers on all their players."

He added: "I'm as excited as anyone that he is back. His training was superb - short and sharp. No endless running. You never heard anyone coming off the training ground moaning, as you do at other clubs."
