Ex-Cardiff, West Brom, Nottingham Forest striker Earnshaw clinches MLS prize

Toronto FC striker Robert Earnshaw has been named the MLS Player of the Week for Week 2 of the 2013 season.

The 31-year old Welshman scored two goals as TFC opened their season account with a 2-1 victory over Sporting Kansas City at the Rogers Center on the weekend.

Former Cardiff City, West Bromwich Albion, Norwich City and Nottingham Forest attacker Earnshaw opened the scoring with his first MLS goal in the third minute when he pounced on a defensive error from Matt Besler to slot home past goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen.

Just under 20 minutes later, Earnshaw coolly converted from the penalty spot to make it 2-0 after John Bostock had been brought down in the area by Paulo Nagamura.

Earnshaw becomes the first TFC player to win the Player of the Week award since Danny Koevermans took it out in July last year.
