Gold Coast United have agreed terms with Dutch striker Maceo Rigters with the new man due to land on the coast on Friday.
27-year-old Rigters, whose club history includes Dutch outfits Heerenveen, Dordrecht and NAC Breda, as well as English Premier League outfit Blackburn Rovers, has a chance of playing some part in Gold Coast's friendly match against Melbourne Victory at Owen Park this Sunday (4 Sept, 3.00pm kick off).
Rigters becomes United's third Dutch import for the season following the signing of Paul Beekmans and Peter Jungschlager earlier this year.
The striker will replace American forward Alex Smith who has been plagued with a troublesome ankle injury during the pre-season campaign.
"Maceo has a very good pedigree and we have had positive reports from our two other Dutch players about his qualities - they both know him quite well," said Head Coach Miron Bleiberg.
"He gets here on Friday and we will see how he is feeling after his travels, but hopefully he will be able to take part in the match on Sunday.
"We're all looking forward to taking on Hyundai A-League opposition and as I've said before it will give us a good indication of what we need to work on between now and the start of the season."
