Ryan Nelsen is determined to bring an element of organization to Toronto FC as he embarks on his first season as a head coach.
The 35-year old New Zealand great took the reins at the Canadian club last month and is planning to instil an organized and defensive structure to a side which conceded 62 goals in 34 league outings last year.
"The team conceded (a lot of) goals last year and you can't really do anything with that," Nelsen told the Toronto Sun.
"We're trying to get our foundation set so that when things don't go well, or the passes don't happen, or it's just an off-day at the office, we'll have something to fall back on. We have a safety net and that safety net is going to be the organization.
"Once we get our fitness level right, our organization level right and (our) foundation, we can start hopefully improving in other areas."
