Ex-Barcelona boss Rexach: Real Madrid had to offload 'ugly' Di Maria to Man Utd

Former Barcelona manager Carles Rexach has claimed that Real Madrid sold Angel di Maria because he was 'too ugly' for them.

The Argentine winger joined Manchester United for £59.7million in the summer and Rexach, currently a director at the Camp Nou, believes he was offloaded due to Real president Florentino Perez's obsession with building a prize product.

"Florentino Perez looks at the world market and wants a team of Galacticos for everyone to admire," Rexach told Regio7.

"Do you understand what I mean?

"(Cristiano) Ronaldo is the flagship of the club. Perez is selling an international brand.

"(Ex-Madrid boss and current Spain manager) Vicente del Bosque and Di Maria are too ugly for Real Madrid. They are different from Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez."
