Former Arsenal and Aston Villa star Paul Merson says Wayne Rooney can't be regarded as a Manchester United great.

He wrote in the Daily Star Sunday: "Don't tell me he's up with Bestie as one of the greats. I'm a big fan of Wayne, but he's not in that class.

"It always makes me laugh that United fans voted Eric Cantona their greatest player recently. What did he ever do in the Champions League? It's just silly.

"If Rooney is still around in four years' time, and is still breaking records, they will probably all vote for him instead."
