Ex-Arsenal star Anderson says England should axe Liverpool fullback Johnson

Viv Anderson reckons Liverpool fullback Glen Johnson should be dropped by England coach Fabio Capello.

Former Nottingham Forest and Arsenal star Anderson reckons England boss Capello has little choice in the matter.

He told the Sunday Mirror: "Ideally Capello would leave him out of this game, let him get over his problems and then bring him in again.

"But there's nobody giving him a push or challenging him. He's got the shirt to himself and nobody is putting him under pressure to play better.

"Complacency has stepped in and he's not playing to the level he could do if he was being pushed.

"He's proved he's a decent full-back but players need to come out sometimes when they lose form, particularly when they're that bit younger. He's finding it very difficult at the moment.

"In fairness to him, I thought he'd improved his defending last season - which was the weakness in his game - and his positioning was a lot better. But Liverpool are not going through the best of times at the moment and his loss of form is highlighted even more by that."
