Former Arsenal and FC Cologne striker Tony Woodcock has backed the transfer of Lukas Podolski.
The 26-year old German striker was yesterday officially announced as a Gunners signing for the summer from Cologne and an ex-player from both clubs has praised the move by the North Londoners.
"It is a great move for Lukas and he has got it perfect at Arsenal - he will live in London and play for a fantastic club. It looks like a win-win situation for player and club.
"He can play up front, a little bit deeper as a second striker or, as he is a natural left-footer, he can even play on the left-hand side. That is down to Arsene (Wenger) to sort out his best position but Lukas has scored quite a few goals in a struggling Cologne side this season, so that shows his quality.
"You have someone in Lukas who ticks all the boxes - right age, right price, great experience, the right time for him to move to another country and he is used to a cult following. There is no reason why he should not be a major success.""I know Lukas very well. If you look at the statistics, he is 26 years old, has played more than 90 times for Germany and has a good goal-per-game ratio," Woodcock told Arsenal's official website.
