Everything to play for with Pochettino - Tottenham midfielder Mason

Tottenham midfielder Ryan Mason is setting himself for a strong pre-season in order to force his way back into Mauricio Pochettino's first-team.

The 24-year-old midfielder missed part of last season with ankle and foot injuries but still only managed eight Premier League starts as he battled for regular game time at White Hart Lane.

However, Mason is not about to let that get him down as he feels he will be given every conceivable chance to prove himself under Pochettino.

"I think it'll probably be a clean slate in pre-season and everything is to play for with this manager," he told Sky Sports.

"You train your way into the team and how you perform in pre-season determines the team for the first game of the season so hopefully I can make sure I'm part of that and cement my place."

Regarding Spurs' hopes of again fighting for the title, as they did until very late in the 2015/16 season, Mason added: "In the last couple of years we've had the same gaffer and a very similar squad of players and we've progressed very well together.

"Hopefully we can kick on again next season and be challenging."
