Everton defender Joleon Lescott was delighted with his competitive England debut in Saturday's 3-0 victory over Estonia.

Lescott told The FA's official website: "It was great, it's always been an ambition of mine to represent my country and I've done that now.

"Hopefully I can continue playing well for my club and keep being selected in squads."

He particularly had praise for midfielder Joe Cole.

"The crowd were exceptional and the boys made me feel easy, Joe Cole especially," he added. "He was showing for me all the time and talking to me, so it was a great experience."
