Everton winger Andros Townsend is eager to prove the doubters wrong in the coming months.

The former Crystal Palace star signed for the Toffees this summer, much to the surprise of some supporters.

Despite showing moments of brilliance, Townsend has struggled to produce the consistency required to star in the Premier League.

"I understand when I signed maybe Everton fans, or fans in general, didn't understand why this club, with their ambition, would get a free transfer from Crystal Palace," said Townsend.

"A lot of people wouldn't have expected me to get this opportunity. I had a spell at the start of my career with Spurs fighting for the top six, then I had a spell when I was battling relegation each year and fighting to get into the top 10 was a good season.

"I feel I have a lot of doubters wondering if I am good enough to play at this level. My hunger is probably more than it was in the past. This is what gets me out of bed: trying to prove those people wrong."
