Everton striker Wayne Rooney is edging closer to joining DC United.

The Mirror says Rooney remains on course to move to DC United at the end of the month.

Rooney to make his debut when they open their new 20,000-capacity Audi Field stadium on July 14.

The MLS transfer window does not open until July 10 but DC want Rooney in Washington by the start of the month.

Rooney, 32, applied for a US work visa last week in Belfast in anticipation of a £12.5million deal until the end of the 2020 season.
