Everton striker King holds free soccer clinics: Parents' wallet shouldn't decide if child plays or not

Departing Everton striker Josh King is holding free soccer clinics in his native Norway.

King has made the move as he believes football is becoming too expensive for junior players and their families in Norway.

He told VG: "I do not think money or the parents' wallet should be what decides whether a child is allowed to join a football school or a football team.

"Not everyone can play in the Premier League, La Liga or Champions League. But I guess if all the 200 kids who are here train hard every single day and are serious, then there are many who can achieve their dream."

Indeed, King is urging football's authorities in Norway to rethink their approach to the junior game. The striker believes young players should be clear to play for free, rather than racking up the bills that are currently demanded from families.

He added: "Expensive invoices must be removed and football must be free for children up to a certain age. I think children should be allowed to participate for free at least until they are 16 years old."

King is offering free coaching this summer just as he comes off contract at Everton. A winter market signing after a release from his contract at Bournemouth, King joined the Blues on a short-term deal to June.

Last season, the Norway international played 13 games for Everton, scoring three goals and producing two assists. King is being allowed by managerless Everton to come off contract at the end of this month.
