Everton striker Calvert-Lewin: Victory over Burnley was a must

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin was delighted scoring in victory over Burnley.

Calvert-Lewin proved the matchwinner with the only goal of the day.

He later said: “I nearly had one in the first 10 minutes when I pressed him, so I thought I'd have another go. Thankfully, I got the ricochet.

“We know the way they play. They like to overplay at times, so we knew if we could set traps like we did today for the goal, we can capitalise on that. It was something we worked on in the week.

“A few games ago, I might not have got a goal like that, and it's just the way it goes. You get one, and then they start to flow and go in.

“It was a long period for myself and it becomes a mind game at times. You're thinking about when your next goal is going to come. I got one the other night, and I came into the game today full of confidence, and I think it showed."

He added: “It's a massive result. A must-win in many ways, but to take the three points today and put in a performance like that - I think in the first half, we were happy to come in 1-0, but we knew we could improve, and I thought we did that in the second half. A great win.

“We had to stay switched on, stay concentrated, and I think we did. The lads put in a great, great shift."
