Everton skipper warns Barkley to expect tough fight for England spot

Everton star Ross Barkley has been in impressive form for his club and country recently.

The 21-year-old was a constant threat in the final third for England in the 3-0 win against Lithuania on Monday night and capped his sparkling performance with a thunderous goal in the first half.

But Everton skipper Phil Jagielka still believes that the youngster will have to fight for his spot in the team as the Three Lions now work towards Euro2016 in France next summer.

"It is difficult to tell, we have got some really influential players out at the moment who have done a great job for England, so once they get fit it is going to be a really tough position to find yourself in that centre-midfield role," the 33-year-old said when asked if his club mate is an automatic starter for England.

"But [there are] some fantastic players, some fantastic characters, so hopefully we can all work together between now and then and come up with the right formula."
