Everton's triumph over Young Boys gives Howard US record

Tim Howard has become the winningest American player in European competition.

The USA goalkeeper was a key part of the Everton side that defeated Swiss outfit Young Boys 4-1 in the Europa League Round of 32 first leg on Thursday night.

The victory was 35-year old Howard's 21st in European competition, taking him past Tottenham's Brad Friedel to set a new record for American players in UEFA tournaments.

Romelu Lukaku netted a hat-trick and Seamus Coleman also hit the back of the net as the Toffees recovered after going down 1-0 in the 10th minute at the Stade de Suisse.
