Everton's Martinez: Coloccini's red not the reason for win over Newcastle

Everton manager Roberto Martinez believes his team thoroughly deserved their 3-0 win over Newcastle United on Sunday.

Goals from James McCathy, Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley allowed the Toffees to produce a much-needed victory to steady themselves after a recent run of outs.

To make life a little easier for the Toffees, Newcastle skipper Fabricio Coloccini was sent off just before the hour-mark for a challenge on Aaron Lennon but Martinez says that had little impact on the end result.

"I haven't seen the replay but I thought it was reckless and high," he said.

"If you look at the reaction of the Newcastle players I don't think anyone was surprised when they saw the red card.

"I don't think it was a turning point or the reason why we won because we were very much in control but it always helps."
