Everton's Howard lands CONCACAF keeper gong, Real Madrid's Navas named top player

Tim Howard has been named the CONCACAF Goalkeeper of the Year for 2014.

The Everton ace starred for the USA during the calendar year, particularly in the World Cup in Brazil, and has been rewarded for his individual brilliance with the region's top keeper prize.

Howard beat Mexico and Malaga netminder Guillermo Ochoa and Real Madrid and Costa Rica gloveman Keylor Navas to the award.

Strangely, however, former Levante shot-stopper Navas was named the CONCACAF Player of the Year in front of Fulham and Costa Rica playmaker Bryan Ruiz and third-placed Howard despite missing out on the keeper prize.

Votes for the awards were tallied among CONCACAF national team coaches and captains, media and fans, each counting for a third of the final vote.

In addition to official CONCACAF competitions, voters also took into account performances for club teams within CONCACAF, as well as the CONCACAF Champions League.
