Everton midfielder James McCarthy is a target for Newcastle United.

The Sun says Toon boss Steve Bruce is plotting a £5million bid for McCarthy.

Brucie needs extra options and the Republic of Ireland midfielder, 28, is available for a knock-down fee.

McCarthy is entering the last year of his deal and the Toffees are trying to find a buyer, with Crystal Palace also interested.
