Everton loanee Conor Coady admits he never pushed to leave Wolves over the summer.
Coady has been outstanding since returning to Merseyside on a season-long loan.
He told Sky Sports: "Listen, I love Wolves. I love everything about the club. I love the people, I love the players, I love the fans, I love everything.
"But when I came back for pre-season, I could see that something was not as usual. Something was wrong.
"It was a strange time. I went from being a big part of the team to next to nothing in the pre-season. No one told me what was going on or what was going to happen.
"I felt I could contribute a lot, but I got the feeling that it wasn't going to happen.
"I understood what happened, I have been in football long enough to see it, but I needed to be told. Nobody did.
"I had to have the conversation myself, so I grabbed the manager. He was open to my wishes and we got to a point where the club and I agreed that I should move on. It wasn't really me who asked to change. I just asked about my situation."
