Everton great Tim Cahill is a shock candidate for a coaching role should manager Marco Silva be sacked today.

The Liverpool Echo says Everton are set to make a decision on Silva's future on Thursday, with David Moyes and Cahill standing by to return to the club.

Silva is widely expected to be sacked as Everton boss after his side's 5-2 defeat to Liverpool left them in the Premier League's relegation zone.

Former Everton manager Moyes is favourite to replace Silva, with ex-Blue Cahill set to be brought in as his No2.

Everton's majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri had been reluctant to sack Silva, but Wednesday night's Merseyside derby drubbing is believed to have brought matters to a head as the club's season reached a new low.
