Everton have been encouraged in their pursuit of Sevilla midfielder Ivan Rakitic.

Everton made enquiries after Rakitic before the Euros and its now emerged Sevilla need to sell to balance the books - with the Croatia international a prime candidate to leave.

Rakitic is understood to be on the radar at Everton as an alternative to Tottenham midfielder Steven Pienaar.
