Everton defender Tarkowski: Burnley very different when I was there

Everton's James Tarkowski has opened up about his departure from Burnley.

The English centre half was a cornerstone of the Clarets team that spent many years in the Premier League.

After excelling for current Toffees boss Sean Dyche at Burnley, Tarkowski is now set to face his old club with Everton in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

Asked about how Burnley play now, he told reporters: “We were a completely different side. We had a lot of success playing the way we did at the time.

“The new style is very different. I wouldn't say I'd choose to pick one or the other.

“They've got their own way of doing it and we had our way of doing it and we had a lot of success doing that.

“I think the manager (Dyche) is admired there and I think he still is. Every season we played at Burnley we were expected to go down and for seven seasons we didn't.

“That showed the sort of success we had there. It was changing times at that club, the manager went and they got straight back up from such a difficult league so I don't think the people look back at the Dyche era and think now it is miles better than it was, it is a completely different time and they are trying their own methods."
