Everton defender Sylvain Distin has mocked Liverpool over their mega spending.

The neighbours head to Wembley next weekend for an FA Cup semi, with the Toffees above their rivals in the league - despite the Reds having spent £108million in 15 months under Kenny Dalglish.

Everton defender Distin, 34, said: "It shows it's not only about the money you're spending, you need to spend it on the right players that fit the team and the way you play.

"You see teams around us spend a lot of money and some of them are really successful but it's more about how you spend than how much you spend."
