Everton boss David Moyes admits he had no chance of beating Liverpool for former Blackpool captain Charlie Adam in the summer.
The financial gap was emphasised when Moyes wanted to land Charlie Adam from Blackpool but knew the fee was out of his range - and the Scotsman headed to Anfield instead.
Moyes, whose brother Kenny is Adam's agent, revealed: "I was interested in him a while back but I couldn't afford him. I couldn't afford my brother's wages, either!
"I think Charlie has really come to the fore since he made the move to Blackpool, it was a great move for him.
"In a way it resurrected his career because he had bobbed around. But he played really well for Blackpool and deservedly got his move."
