Everton boss David Moyes was pleased with Leighton Baines' goal in yesterday's defeat at Portsmouth.
Moyes said: "He scored a good goal. We've been hoping he would score some. He scored a few when he was at Wigan. We've been working with him along with Steve Round and he got sight of goal and it worked."
The game at Fratton Park also saw a debut for Danish defender Lars Jacobsen.
The right back impressed his manager, who was relieved to see the summer acquisition make his long-awaited first-team bow.
"Lars did fine," said Moyes. "I'm pleased he got a game. I wanted to give the boy an opportunity and he got that today albeit in a difficult game."
