Everton boss Roberto Martinez is backing John Stones to be a future England captain.

The 20-year-old defender has enjoyed an impressive campaign for the Toffees and Martinez believes he can skipper the Three Lions one day.

"I would agree with that," Martinez added. "Leaders are born. You can learn, but John has got that leading DNA.

"Having players like Gareth Barry and Phil Jagielka it's the perfect. We need to allow him to keep improving. In terms of having that nature of being a leader and a captain, he's got that."
