Everton boss Roberto Martinez insists there was nothing untoward over the absence of Marouane Fellaini for victory over Real Betis.
There has been speculation linking the Belgium international with a move to Manchester United in the past week but Martinez pointed out his absence was due to an infected cut in his leg.
The Spaniard told the club's website: "Marouane would have been available if it was a competitive game.
"He picked up a cut on the US tour. Bearing in mind he has to join the Belgium squad now - and in two days the infection will clear - I didn't want to risk hurting him."
