Everton, Blackburn linked with Newcastle coach Round

Newcastle United face a battle to hold onto first team coach Steve Round.

Round is a target for Everton boss Dave Moyes as he seeks to appoint a new assistant manager.

The Evening Chronicle says Toon manager Kevin Keegan is keen to keep Round but the highly-rated ex-Boro coach has yet to be offered a new deal and is currently out of contract.

Round may also be the subject of interest from Blackburn Rovers, with former Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce one of the names in the frame to take over at Ewood Park.

Moyes has yet to appoint a permanent No 2 after former Toon coach Alan Irvine left for Preston North End last November.

And Round fits the bill for Moyes.
