Everton attacker Naismith happy playing for Martinez

Everton attacker Steven Naismith enjoys playing for manager Roberto Martinez.

Everton host Manchester United today.

"The manager is the first person to tell you if it's not going well or if it's not good enough. I wouldn't say he just goes down the one route of saying everything is great. At times this season, it's not been," Naismith told the Mail on Sunday.

"He'll be straight in to tell us what is not going right, or who is at fault or what the problem is. He doesn't hold back that way and as a manager you have to be like that. You aren't going to get to a high Premier League team if you haven't got the bottle to tell it like it is.

"But the encouragement is good for the young players in particular. It has given them the confidence to go and do their thing, and not worry if what they do goes wrong.

"They will learn that way and if you look at Ross [Barkley], Roms [Romelu Lukaku] and Stonesy [John Stones], you have three examples of young guys who have benefited most. They aren't just part of the first-team squad, they are making a real contribution in the team."
