Everton and Sunderland join queue for Rangers' Jelavic

Everton and Sunderland are the latest clubs to be credited with an interest in Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic.

The Croatian international has already received attention from Leicester City and Liverpool and now the Toffees and Black Cats are preparing January bids according to reports.

Jelavic was a target for David Moyes in the summer but the Everton boss couldn't get a deal over the line on deadline day whilst it has been revealed that Martin O'Neill is keen to bring in some reinforcements to the Stadium of Light in the winter with a striker at the head of his wishlist.

Rangers boss Ally McCoist is aware that clubs are circling for Jelavic, who has scored 14 goals so far this season, and he has hinted that perhaps the former Rapid Vienna man could soon be on his way out.

"It's not something I want to happen but it's also not something I can rule out. It's as simple as that," he said.

"I know Martin (O'Neill). I worked with him on television. He is an absolute diamond, a class act.

"I'd rather Jelavic stayed here. The speculation's affected him, but he keeps doing the business. I was really pleased with him last week against Hibs. I hope he can continue that form against (Inverness) Caley. He's vital."
