Tottenham have fought back from two goals to force a 2-2 draw with Swiss champions FC Basel in the Europa League quarter-final first leg.
Basel found themselves two to the good after 34 minutes at White Hart Lane but had to settle for a draw although their two away goals could prove important in the return leg in Swizterland next week.
Valentin Stocker opened the account on the half-hour mark, stunning the North Londoners when he slotted home after Marco Streller's initial effort bounced back off the post.
Four minutes later and Basel were on cloud nine when Fabian Frei managed to head home Jan Vertonghen's inadvertent flicked header from a corner.
Emmanuel Adebayor gave Spurs some respite five minutes before the break when he forced Scott Parker's pass home, lifting the morale of the home side.
Tottenham were on the march in the second half and it took them less than 15 minutes to equalise when Gylfi Sigurdsson fired from range to beat Basel keeper Yann Sommer with the help of a deflection.
The fightback would be warmly welcomed by Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas but the sight of an injured Gareth Bale, who was stretchered form the pitch with an ankle injury, would have the club feeling a little off colour ahead of the return bout.
