Eriksson in Spain seeking new Notts County investment

Sven Goran Eriksson is in Spain attempting to drum up finance for Notts County.

The Mail on Sunday says Eriksson has launched a desperate bid to find fresh funds for Notts County by flying to Puerto Banus in Spain to meet Norwegian telecoms millionaire Idar Vollvik.

Eriksson is still helping owner and chairman Peter Trembling in his search for financial backers, despite last week's walk-out by Swedish coach Hans Backe and the failure of the company who recruited him to provide any backing for the club.

But Eriksson's long-term future as director of football is still in doubt and dependent on new money being invested, with Vollvik yet to decide whether to back them.

Trembling, who yesterday returned from New York, denies the club are in financial crisis - something Bournemouth know plenty about - but confirmed that Eriksson has met Vollvik.

"I think he was over there on Monday or Tuesday but I haven't had a chance to catch up with Sven on that," he said.

"Funds aren't particularly short. We need investment to help us achieve what we set out to do. The sooner we get that investment then we can get on and do that, but in the meantime the funds are there to run the club day to day. That's not an issue."

Trembling also denied reports staff had been told there was only money to keep the club going until January.

"That's absolutely not the case and people aren't giving you the true story," said Trembling.

"It's like any business: you look at your projected income for the year and look at your costs. We've done that and got all that covered. The investment is to push us on to the next stage. Every club is looking for new players and our club is no different."
