English Premier League stronger than Spanish - Tottenham's van der Vaart

Tottenham star Rafael van der Vaart believes that the English Premier League is a much stronger league than the Spanish La Liga.

The Dutchman has spent his entire career in Europe, playing in his homeland with Ajax, in Germany with Hamburg and in Spain with Real Madrid before joining Spurs last summer.

van der Vaart rated all four competitions, saying that the Premiership was the one he feels is of the highest standard.

"Holland is the best league to learn football. Good league, not the strongest in Europe, so that's good. I left for Hamburg, which was good, then you can build up in Spain," he said.

"The speed of the game was so high here that it took me a while to get used to it but I am getting better now.

"The league here is much stronger. In Spain, you only have Barcelona and Real Madrid, whereas here you have to fight to get the points in every game."
