England to wait on fitness of Liverpool's Sturridge

England's Roy Hodgson suggests he will wait and see what happens with Daniel Sturridge this week before contacting Liverpool regarding his availability.

The 25-year old striker has been out of action with the Reds since August 31 after injuring his thigh on Three Lions duty in early September.

Sturridge had a setback recently when sustaining a calf problem at Liverpool training but has travelled to Spain for Tuesday night's Champions League clash with Real Madrid.

In regards to his possible selection for the November 15 Euro2016 qualifier with Slovenia, Hodgson admitted that he still had to speak with Reds boss Brendan Rodgers concerning Sturridge.

"No (I haven't spoken with Liverpool). Not at the moment but I have it in mind to do so of course. I was actually rather waiting to see what the situation would be with him," Hodgson said.

"It's very good news he has travelled, but of course before I was to select him again I would check both with the player and with the club to make certain we were doing the right thing."

Sturridge's initial injury caused some problems between his club and country after he suggested he asked for a break from training following the September 3 friendly win over Norway.
