England U21 boss Gareth Southgate is set to spark a club versus country war with Manchester United according to reports.

The Daily Mail is of the belief that Southgate will select the left-back in his Young Lions squad for the European Championships this summer but United manager Louis van Gaal is against the move.

The Dutch tactician wants the 19-year old to rest this off-season after enduring a tough debut season at Old Trafford but Southgate is eager to have his best possible squad available for the tournament.

Shaw went away with the England senior team for the World Cup in Brazil last summer and van Gaal wants to avoid the youngster burning out by undertaking a further workload.
