England defender Matthew Upson will keep himself physically and mentally prepared for his World Cup chance following his disappointment in game one.
The West Ham United man was not used by Fabio Capello in the 1-1 draw with the USA on Saturday despite the fact that centre-back Ledley King was substituted off.
Instead, Capello used Liverpool right-back Jamie Carragher in a central defensive role snubbing Upson who admitted he was disappointed but will remain positive ahead of Friday's clash with Algeria.
"Every game, you always have to prepare as if you'll get on the pitch or you'll get caught short. Everything else is out of my control," he said.
"I just have to make sure I'm physically and mentally ready for the challenge. I can safely say that I can. Whenever I'm called upon, I'll be ready.
"It is disappointing for me on a personal level. I want to play. But it's the manager's decision. He will do what's best for the team.
"Ultimately, that's why we're here. We're here to win something as a group, so you have to put aside what you want and what you don't want.
"You have to be collective as a group. I'm willing to accept his decision, as normal, and I'll be ready when called upon."
