England hit Andorra for six

Three goals in each half gave England the expected victory over Andorra and are now just one win from qualifying for next years World Cup. Wayne Rooney already had two chances in the opening couple of minutes to give England the lead before he finally opened the scoring on three minutes for his eighth goal of the World Cup qualifying campaign.

Glen Johnson provided the cross for Rooney to head home and the Portsmouth full back was to have a hand in most of the England goals.

The home side then seemed to lose their momentum with Andorra defending in depth and having no attacking ambitions whatsoever.

The fact that England keeper Robert Green touched the ball for the first time, to ironic cheers, after 24 minutes tells its own story.

Frank Lampard made it two from Theo Walcott's cut back on 28 minutes then Rooney got his second with a fine finish from another Johnson cross just before the break.

Andorra keeper Koldo Alvarez seemed to be keeping the score respectable in the second period until a burst of three goals in seven minutes gave some credibility to the scoreline.

Substitute Jermaine Defoe scored in the 72nd and 75th minutes and Peter Crouch bundled home number six.

David Beckham played the full ninety minutes, and with time and space sprayed accurate passes all around the pitch.

A tube strike in London restricted the attendance at Wembley to just under 60,000 and coach Fabio Capello was pleased those that did manage to turn up saw six England goals.

"I like this. I'm very happy for fans. For us the crowd is very important - and we played well for them," he told ITV.

"We scored very early after missing some chances and I am very happy and now just need to win one more game to qualify".

England midfielder Frank Lampard agreed with the Italian tactician: "It's not as easy as it looks. I think we all appreciate what the fans have done tonight. It just sums up England fans."
