Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has backed England's chances at Euro2016.

However, the former German international will be rooting for his home nation while on holidays and away from the demands of being an national team player.

He told Arsenal Player: "There are some promising countries who have developed really well over qualification, so hopefully it's going to be an exciting tournament.

"Even now, from an England perspective, there are lots of hopes.

"It's going to be interesting so let's see. That's the beauty of it for me, to be able to able to go on holiday and have no pressure, just pressure as a fan to want the German side to win."
