England has plenty of midfield options but Capello will remain patient

The England national team has a embarrassment of riches in their midfield but manager Fabio Capello will remain patient with exactly who will play in the centre of the pitch at the World Cup.

In Monday night's friendly win over Mexico, Capello used Steven Gerrard in central midfielder after half-time which worked well and you can add to that Frank Lampard, James Milner, Michael Carrick and even Gareth Barry who is currently carrying an ankle injury.

Capello admitted he had some options but was still unsure on who he would use come June 12.

"We never suffered a lot during World Cup qualification but this time, I put two different players in, Milner who has played in midfield this year, and Carrick," he said.

"I changed it after half-time and put Steven in the middle, where he played very well.

"He is a really good player and can play in midfield, as a number 10, in lots of different positions.

"Gerrard can play in midfield with Frank Lampard but we have to wait and see which players will be fit."
