England coach Gareth Southgate has explained calling up Brighton captain Lewis Dunk.

Dunk is back in the squad after a five-year absence.

Southgate said: “Brighton's football this year has been exceptional and Lewis Dunk and Levi Colwill have been a big part of that.

“He (Dunk) has shown great composure with the ball.

“His defending, he is asked to defend very often in one-against-one situations.

“He thoroughly deserves his call."
