England coach Hodgson: I knew Liverpool's Sterling would make it at 15

England coach Roy Hodgson is convinced of the talent of Liverpool whizkid Raheem Sterling.

Sterling has made 16 appearances for Liverpool this season, scoring one goal, and he is expected to face Chelsea today.

Asked when he first thought Sterling may one day play for his country, Hodgson replied: "I suppose when he played in Borussia Monchengladbach, when I'd only been at Liverpool for about three weeks.

"He came on for the last 15 minutes in front of 55,000 people, turned the game around and almost won it for us.

"I had an idea then that this might turn out to be a bit of a player, this lad. Of course, he's really come on this year. I thought it was a bit of a no-brainer that Raheem would be in the team. Every time I've watched Liverpool this year he's had a good game."
