Elliott confident Wellington Phoenix will hit consistent form soon

Wellington Phoenix midfielder Simon Elliott is confident the team will find consistent form soon after mixing their results in recent weeks.

The New Zealanders managed a narrow 1-0 away win over Perth Glory on Sunday but prior to that were ripped open by Brisbane Roar, losing 4-1 at home after a 3-0 loss at Adelaide United.

But Elliott says the players are working hard to become a better side defensively and ensure that they give themselves every chance of winning matches, no matter where they play.

"I think people were disappointed in their own performances and disappointed in the team performance," Elliott said of the Roar loss.

"But I think we addressed some of those concerns at the weekend. We've still got a lot to work on in terms of how we approach games and be defensively disciplined because if you do that you don't concede goals and you win games."

Elliott, who is on a six-match short-term stint with the club, admitted he wasn't looking too far ahead and just wanted to help the Phoenix achieve positive results during his stay.

"They are doing me a favour really so the only way I can repay them is by going out and doing the best I can to help the team," he added.

"My focus and the team's focus is just on this next run of games, starting on Saturday (against Central Coast Mariners).

"Then we've got five games in two weeks after that so it's a big, big part of the season for us.

"If we can get good results in this next little patch then it sets the team up really nicely going into next year and the play-off run."
