Edu thrilled to be back in action with Rangers

Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu is thrilled to be back in action with the Scottish champions.

The USA international returned to the Gers line-up after a three-week break following the World Cup to help his side to a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers in the Festival of Football held in Sydney on Sunday.

Edu scored the first goal, a 10th minute header to open the scoring, and after the match said it was great to be back on the pitch with his teammates.

"It's great to be back with all the boys again," he told the club's official website.

"I had a few weeks off to relax after South Africa and took my mind off things but that's behind me now.

"It was great to have a bit of time away from football but I'm excited about being in Australia and with the team once more.

"It's important for me now to be back amongst everyone as we all need to be ready for the first game of the season against Kilmarnock."

Edu added that his World Cup experiences will never be lost but admitted that it was now time to get back to business as Rangers go about defending last season's Scottish Premier League title.

"I found it a real privilege to be part of the World Cup and it has been fun talking to all of the guys about what it was like," he added.

"Not many people get to experience it so it was an honour to be part of the tournament, especially as it was the first one in Africa.

"Now, though, I've got my business head back on again and we are all training hard ahead of our first competitive games."
