Ecuadorian striker Zura joins SJ Earthquakes on loan

San Jose Earthquakes have secured the services of Ecuadorian striker Edmundo Zura on loan.

The 28-year old joins the 'Quakes from homeland club El Nacional until December with the option of a permanent deal at the end of the loan.

Zura, who has appeared 11 times for the Ecuador national team, has spent almost his entire career in his homeland with the likes of Imbabura SC, Macara and Barcelona SC. He had a short stint with Australian club Newcastle Jets in 2008.

'Quakes general manager John Doyle was excited about the arrival of Zura which will become official once he obtains his P-1 visa.

"He's a powerful guy who can get behind defenses and has a good scoring record in Ecuador," Doyle told MLSsoccer.com. "We're looking for him to contribute, that's for sure.

"He's as strong or stronger, faster than the guys that we have. Frank [Yallop, San Jose head coach] hasn't had a selection of the guys he would have liked. This should give [him] a person to select from. We'll see how he fits into MLS, but he's been good in Ecuador and with their national team, and we're looking forward to having him."
