Dynamo Moscow's Wilkshire, NYRB's Cahill among Australian sports top earners

Two of Australia's top footballers have made the top 10 of the highest earners in Australian sport for 2012.

Dynamo Moscow defender Luke Wilkshire and New York Red Bull midfielder Tim Cahill have come in at sixth and eighth respectively on Business Review Weekly's top 50 Australian men and women from sports around the world.

Socceroos right-back Wilkshire, who moved from Dutch club FC Twente to Moscow in 2008, earned $5million for the year whilst former Everton star Cahill was just behind him on $4.5million following his move to MLS in July.

Australia's other top-earning footballers include Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, Aston Villa attacking midfielder Brett Holman (both $3.5m), Al-Gharafa midfielder Mark Bresciano ($2.2m), Middlesbrough striker Scott McDonald ($2m), Al Wasl defender and Socceroos skipper Lucas Neill ($1.5m) and Reading keeper Adam Federici ($1.3m).

The top 5 Aussie sports stars for 2012 sees Golden State Warriors basketball star Andrew Bogut ($13.5m) come in at number one, followed by F1 ace Mark Webber ($12m), golfer Adam Scott ($10.5m), two-time MotoGP world champ Casey Stoner ($8m) and Australian cricket captain Michael Clarke ($5.5m).
