Richard Dunne fears for QPR's future if they fail to win promotion at first attempt next season.
Last season's Championship play-off winners are heading back to the second tier after just one season in the top-flight.
Dunne said: "The club needs to try to make an effort to come back up. Because you've seen so many other clubs that have disappeared off the map.
"The fans definitely don't deserve that. It's a club that's been up and down and needs a bit of stability.
"I think we could have a go at it next year and getting back in the Premier League would be a good place to start."
